The theme for Engineering Open House 2009 will be Unlocking Potentials. We have begun to organize all aspects of the event. We will be posting more information on our website as it gets finalized.
Beginning of School Year, Beginning of EOH 2009 Planning
Published August 23, 2008 Uncategorized Leave a CommentAs you may know, the school year for Illinois begins on Monday. Campus is alive with excitement, as freshmen get to know the campus, returning undergrads meet with friends, and professors prepare for the first day of class.
The EOH Central Committee (“Cen-Com” for short) is gearing up for our first meetings to figure out office-hours schedules, decide EOH 2009′s color scheme, and getting prepared to plan and organize the largest student-run event on the Illinois campus. It’s a lot of work, but the end product makes it all worth it.
Check back here often – we will have postings from other Central Committee members explaining different aspects of EOH, as well as interesting tidbits about EOH. EOH 2009 is going to rock!
The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology. From the LED to sound on film, you can read about the accomplishments of Illinois faculty and alumni here http://www.engr.uiuc.edu/innovations/
EOH has always been about showing what engineers can accomplish and every year there are perennial favorites and amazing new exhibits on display.

As I walked onto campus this morning to run a few errands and prepare for a meeting I was greeted by Meagan, EOH director for 2008, who handed me a bag of pictures from past EOHs and a binder of documents from 1995, gave me a hug and said good-bye.
And then instead of preparing for that meeting I decided to look through some of those pictures and came across this one of a Knights of St. Patrick prank from 2000.
It may seem like an eternity to those days in March, but in order for us to pull off an event that spans the entire engineering campus and do these things called classes, exams, homework, machine problems and just maybe have a life we need to start early.
The Rube Goldberg Design Contest (High School) will most likely have a new location, we’re looking to involve the faculty on a larger scale and we’ve tweaked a few internal processes here and there to make things easier for exhibitors and volunteers.
The school year may have just come to a close, but the preparations have just begun.
We wish all of the recent graduates well and hope that you’ll come back to visit as alumni.
Cheers,
Yang Zhao
Engineering Open House Director
